Interview: METHODS
S: Personally, State School Kids' vibe gives it a 2000-dance-pop kinda feel. Was this intentional, and if not, what inspired the sound of State School Kids?
M: I don't think there was any real intention as such. From early days, we wanted the first and second half of the track to feel like 2 different songs. But we were proud to finally get our local historic town of Bilston into one of our tunes after many years of trying!
S: What words would you use to describe your musical aesthetic, if any?
M: I'm not really sure, but there's always a groove. There's nearly always a set of ideas that shouldn't work together, but do. And there's always intensity.
S: I love the arpeggiator and glockenspeil riffs in State School Kids! What made you choose this sound as the track's focal point?
M: The arp just came from us toying around with synths that sounded good. We felt that it would make a great base for a song. As for the glock, have you heard the backing track to Badlands or True Romance? We were going for that kind of vibe.
S: State School Kids celebrates youth and messing around with your friends. What are your best memories from this time in your life, if any come to mind?
M: We'd say going to the park, lighting camp fires and and throwing cans of Lynx on hahahah.
S: Last question! Can fans expect any new material in the near future?
M: Yes! We've nearly completed recording an album. We started it when lockdown began, and State School Kids was the first track we made. The album has morphed into something that we never expected, and we can't wait to surprise people with what we've done!
